Question #1: What inspired you to pursue the major you are in?
I discovered my passion for life sciences and animal welfare near the end of my high school years. When I was researching Penn State as a place to apply, the Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences major checked all of the right boxes for me. The major requires you to take classes that are required by most veterinary schools across the country and includes many interesting upper-level courses. I knew this major would be a great fit in helping me reach my goals of being a small and exotic animal veterinarian.
Question #2: What has been the best part of your time in the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences?
The best part has been meeting like-minded individuals across the college and the many opportunities to get involved. Along with Ag Advocates, I participate in other clubs within the college. I help weigh piglets as part of the Swine Research Team and have attended hands-on labs as a member of the Pre-Vet Club. I have also been a teaching assistant for an Animal Science class for two semesters now. The College of Agricultural Sciences and Penn State as a whole have clubs and activities for everyone to join and find what interests them.
Question #3: What do you wish you would have known as a new student at Penn State?
As a new student I wish I had known that everyone takes things at their own pace and to not put too much pressure on myself. There are a wide range of opportunities, clubs, and services available to students right away, and they all can play a unique role in your time at Penn State. You don’t have to rush to join everything all at once, and you can take your own approach to everything the school has to offer!
