The Nutrient Management Program has updated the Nutrient Balance Sheet (NBS) Excel Standard Format planning tool to Version 6.1 – March 2022. Several updates were added to resolve identified issues and provide additional information.

Planners can continue to use any NBS Excel Version 6.x. However the best practice is to use the latest version when starting a new balance sheet. If a planner experiences any of the problems resolved by the updates summarized below, then NBS Excel Version 6.1 - March 2022 must be used. Remember, there is a process to transfer a balance sheet to the next version so information doesn't need to be manually re-entered. No updates have been made to NBS Word Version 6.0.

Following is a summary of the changes made in NBS Excel Version 6.1 - March 2022:

NBS Cover Page

The Nutrient Management Specialist or Broker Signature cell was unlocked so an electronic signature can be directly pasted there.

Appendix 4 P Index Input Sheet, P Index and Winter Matrix

The formulas were updated so that when Winter 1.2-12 is selected the field will be entered into the P Index or Winter Matrix. Previously in NBS Version 6.0, when Winter 1.2-12 was selected as the planned application season, the field would not be entered in the P Index Printout or the Winter Matrix.

Transfer NBS Version 6 Tab

The macro to transfer a previous NBS Version 6.0 plan to Version 6.1 was updated.

As a reminder, there is a detailed description of all the updates to the NBS in the Version Updates tab of the NBS spreadsheet.

The Act 38 NBS Standard Format, NBS Excel 6.1 2022-03 (2007-2019), is now available on the Nutrient Management Program website under Planning Tools.
