Torey Fischer has recently joined the state extension team as a poultry extension educator based in Mifflin County. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in Animal Science and a master’s in Poultry Science and Extension from Purdue University. She worked with extension in several different capacities at those universities throughout her education. Her research during those degrees focused on the welfare and behavior of laying hens in cage-free housing systems as well as extension programming in smaller-scale and backyard poultry operations. She hopes to expand programming in these areas and reach more small to midsize poultry operations in Mifflin, Juniata, Snyder, and Union Counties and the surrounding areas.
