Dan Sanchez, an extension specialist who runs the Carbon Removal Lab at University of California Berkeley, will discuss the emergence of a carbon-negative bioeconomy on April 14. Sanchez's talk is part of the Institute for Sustainable Agricultural, Food and Environmental Science Spring 2022 Distinguished Speaker Series, and the keynote presentation of the Penn State’s Biorenewables Symposium.

The talk will be held in-person at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, in 312 Ag Engineering. Overflow space will be available in the forum space of the Ag Engineering Building.

Sanchez will describe a low-cost carbon dioxide removal method using biomass. The method includes existing and hypothesized developments of the biofuels industry in the United States, including corn ethanol, biogas, sustainable aviation fuels and electricity for electric vehicles. Sanchez’s proposal sits at the intersection of technology, markets and public policy and will be a look at what possibilities lie in the future.

At UC Berkeley, Sanchez works to commercialize sustainable carbon dioxide removal technologies and supports outreach efforts geared toward policymakers and technologists across the United States.

Project developers, policy makers, researchers, public sector professionals and those interested in bioenergy and biorenewables in the emerging bioeconomy are invited to attend.
