Research summary
My research centers on elucidating basic mechanisms that shape interactions of insects, plants and their associated symbionts with the ultimate goal of enhancing host plant resistance to insect pests. These mechanisms include the identification of chemical cues and signals used by insects for host recognition, the identification of constitutive and herbivore-induced plant defenses, and elucidation of the role of associated symbionts that are often key players in interactions between insects and plants. My lab integrates basic and applied research with the goal of providing useful tools for insect pest management strategies.

Research interests:

  • Molecular and chemical ecology of insect plant interactions and associated symbionts
  • Basic and applied chemical ecology
  • Insect biology and ecology
  • Insect sensory biology and host plant selection mechanisms
  • Enhancement of host plant resistance to biotic stresses
  • Biological control and insect pest management
