NRCS announced an extension of the fiscal year (FY) 2011 sign up for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program's (EQIP) Organic Initiative. Certified Organic and Transitioning-to-Organic producers will now be able to sign up for the Organic Initiative until May 20, 2011.

FSA Administrator Reminds Affected Farmers and Ranchers of FSA Programs

(HARRISBURG, PA) April 5, 2011 - USDA Farm Service Agency Pennsylvania Executive Director Bill Wehry reminds landowners and producers that a general sign-up for the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) ends April 15, 2011. During this sign-up period, farmers and ranchers may offer eligible land through the local Farm Service Agency county office.

PA-WAgN launches a farmer-to-farmer information sharing tool. This is an educational program for women in agriculture designed to enhance peer learning, mentoring, and networking. Features of this online learning community include case studies about the farms that host field days; discussion boards; resource sharing of video clips, photos, and stories about successes in agriculture.

PA-WAgN has been awarded a three-year New & Beginning Farmer Grant from the United States Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food & Agriculture. This new effort involves developing new educational efforts to link new & beginning women farmers with experienced women farmers.
