June 23, 2022, marks the 50th anniversary of Title IX, which was signed into law by President Richard Nixon in 1972 as part of the Education Amendments of 1972. The Gender Equity Center and Penn State Athletics have been working on a 50th Anniversary celebration of this important milestone. As a result, we will be hosting a Title IX “Roar & Rally” on June 23rd.

The Roar & Rally will begin with a one-mile walk, or “roar,” which will start at the We Are statue on the corner of Curtin Road and University Drive, and will finish on the Old Main Lawn with a celebratory “rally.” The rally will host a number of speakers, students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni, speaking and sharing their experiences and the impact of Title IX on their lives. While celebrating this historic moment, the Roar & Rally will also launch another amazing achievement, the Penn State Women's Athletic Endowment, to celebrate and support women's athletics at Penn State. Supporters can donate using the Women’s Athletic Endowment Fund’s donation page or by texting 50YEARSTITLEIX to 4144.

Registration is free and participants who register by June 15 will receive a 50th anniversary of Title IX t-shirt. Interested participants can register using the link here. Participants will also receive rally towels and snacks while supplies last. Check-in for the Roar & Rally opens at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 23rd and will take place in the Stadium West parking lot at the corner of University Drive and Curtin Road, where participants can get their Title IX gear and prepare for the walk. The Roar & Rally walk will then leave the We Are statue at 11:30 a.m., leading to Old Main lawn. From there, the celebration will commence on the Old Main Lawn with the program of various speakers starting around 12:05 p.m. from Old Main Steps and wrapping up by 1:00 p.m.
