Students and counselors at the Outdoor School
Shaver's Creek is Penn State’s nature center, which is located 12 miles from campus.
At the beginning of each semester, we reach out to students to get involved with Shaver's Creek classes and programs, specifically Outdoor School.
Outdoor School is a 2-credit class which counts as a Gen Ed GHW and involves spending 1 week at a residential environmental education program near campus, and is of value for Penn State students who want to gain first-hand experience working in the outdoors, in community settings with youth, and/or education. It is an excellent resume builder, provides hands-on leadership experience, and offers a strong sense of community among participants. If you are interested in applying, please visit the Shaver's Creek Outdoor School website. Apply by February 6, 2026.
If you have questions, you can reach out to the Outdoor School team at outdoorschool@psu.edu.
