The Penn State Center Pittsburgh is looking for a student with an interest in providing administrative, planning and logistical support related to the Fall 2017 launching of the Study Away Pittsburgh Program.

The Penn State Center Pittsburgh (an office of Outreach, Extension and Research) is an urban platform for the University in meeting its obligation in the transfer of research based practice into community problem-solving. The intern will work directly with the Study Away Pittsburgh Program Manager in implementing the community portion of the launch. The Penn State Pittsburgh Study Away Program is a semester-long affordable, transformative, urban educational experience for 3rd and 4th year Penn State students. Modeled after the Study Abroad Program, twenty (20) students will be placed with community partners, and participate in an in-depth community-based learning experience in sustainability while residing in Pittsburgh for the entire semester. This program offers community partners knowledgeable boots-on-the-ground 3rd and 4th year students. Students will come from various majors and minors such as landscape architecture; geography; marketing; communication; recreation, parks & tourism management; community environment development; and sustainability leadership. Internship work may include working with the Study Away Pittsburgh Program Manager on the development of an orientation protocol for students including pre-travel orientation video/remote webinar (e.g., Intro to Pittsburgh, how housing works, transportation, safety etc.) as well as an onsite orientation to the city (e.g., cultural competency, healthcare, location of groceries/laundries, intro to the site locations and partners); development of successful community partnership placements with well-defined goals/deliverables/outcomes as well as a tracking system based, in part, on a review of successful University efforts; and, ongoing development of the brand and constituency for the program. Requirements: Junior or Senior. This summer work opportunity will be for the period mid-May through mid-August, approximately 30 hours per week.
