Congratulations to the top place students in the 2025 Guldin Speaking Contest, hosted by the Penn State Coaly Society.

The Penn State Coaly Society recently hosted the Guldin Speaking Contest - a spirited competition that is open to any full-time undergraduate student in the College of Agricultural Sciences.

Lauren Smith, a first-year student from Manheim, PA took home top honors and $500 with her speech about prescribed burns in forest management.

Student participants received monetary awards for their achievements. Speeches included a diverse range of agricultural topics from aquaponics to agricultural literacy. The top five honors went to:

  1. Lauren Smith
  2. Erica Teagarden
  3. Lauren Kennedy
  4. Katherine Rapp
  5. Sebastian Goldstein

The Guldin Speaking Contest is made possible by the Guldin family in memory of Paul R. Guldin, a former poultry extension specialist at Penn State. The award honors Mr. Guldin's service and commitment to agriculture and public speaking.
