Juniors and seniors with a passion for conservation, outdoor recreation, or natural resources are encouraged to apply by May 7.

The Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association (POWA) is now accepting applications for the 2026–27 William T. Johns Memorial Scholarship, an opportunity for students passionate about the outdoors and storytelling.

Each year, POWA awards four $1,000 scholarships to students who demonstrate strong academic achievement and a commitment to communicating the value of conservation and outdoor experiences. The scholarship is open to full-time juniors and seniors studying communications, natural resources, environmental sciences, or related fields. Students in other majors with demonstrated experience in outdoor communication are also encouraged to apply.

Applicants will need to submit a completed application, a one-page statement outlining their communication career goals and philosophy on the outdoors, a faculty letter of recommendation, and a current transcript.

Applications must be submitted by May 7, 2026.

This is a great opportunity to gain recognition for your work and passion—last year, three students from WFS, FOREM, and ERM programs received this scholarship.
