Health Promotion and Wellness - Internship Opportunity

Health Promotion and Wellness is seeking a student intern for the summer 2019 semester.

The role of the Health Promotion and Wellness (HPW) intern will be to assist with a range of health promotion initiatives during summer 2019. The intern will learn about health and wellness services, programming, outreach activities, and social marketing efforts. The intern will have hands-on opportunities to participate in the development of health promotion and wellness initiatives for a college population. The intern will work collaboratively and individually to accomplish assignments. The intern will be supervised by Erin Raupers, Assistant Director.

The intern’s primary responsibility will be to assist with development of social media for the Healthy Penn State campaign. The intern will review best practices in communicating messages and create content to be shared in fall 2019. The goal of the Healthy Penn State campaign is to improve the academic success of students by enhancing behaviors that contribute to health. The intern will develop content and use social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, to increase awareness about Healthy Penn State. The intern will specifically help promote the Wellness Suite during New Student Orientation.

The intern will assist with the daily operation of the Wellness Suite. Activities include staffing the front desk, greeting students who have appointments, answering the phone, answering questions, and opening/closing the suite. The intern will assist with wellness initiatives, health promotion campaigns,wellness services and wellness workshops. The intern will gain valuable knowledge about evidence-based strategies for sleep, nutrition, physical activity, and stress. The intern will conduct literature reviews and write summary reports recommending strategies for Health Promotion and Wellness. The intern will assist with planning fall recruitment and training for the Healthy Penn State ambassador program.

The start date of this internship is May 20, 2019. The intern may work up to 25 hours per week for 8 weeks. The approximate end date is July 12, 2019. This is an unpaid internship, but the successful candidate will receive credit through their academic department. We are seeking someone who is creative and values innovation along with excellence. Experience with technology is essential. Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills are essential as well as a genuine appreciation for working with diverse populations. Knowledge of and experience with evaluation, assessment and outcomes measurement is important.
