Eight members of the Penn State Collegiate Cattlewomen Club attended the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Convention that was held in Tampa, Florida on February 5-8. While at the convention, the ladies were able to attend the Cattlemen’s College, which was a series lectures based upon improving your beef operation. Topics included improving reproduction, transferring the operation to the next generation, water usage and conservation, animal welfare programs, and many more.

Members also enjoyed a motivational session with special guest speakers, Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy. The Tuohys are parents of Baltimore Raven’s lineman Michael Oher, and the real-life basis for the movie The Blind Side. In addition to the Tueys, Stuart Varney, host of “Varney & Company” on FOX Business Channel shared his thoughts on the economy and the strength of American ingenuity and work ethic.

The National Cattlewomen’s Association held their annual meeting at the Convention as well. The agenda included elections for the upcoming year and reports on activities in 2012. CCW members also had a chance to tour parts and Tampa and enjoy local art, food, and scenery.

This trip was made possible by funding through UPAC, the College of Agriculture Office of Undergraduate Education, and CCW fundraising.
