The Final Days of Spring Semester

A special note from the new Coordinator for Campus Enrollment and Retention in the College of Agricultural Sciences

As the final days of the semester count down, I wanted to introduce myself.   My name is Jenneth Layaou, and I am the new Coordinator for Campus Enrollment and Retention. I have joined a special team in the College of Agricultural Sciences, all representatives of unique resources for you as you explore Penn State and the College. I am your liaison to connect you to resources, opportunities, and key people for your academic success.

Coming from the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences as an Academic Adviser, I am new to the College of Agricultural Sciences. I have been enjoying my exploration of the College, learning a few things along the way.  For example, the students of the College of Ag Sciences are dynamic, with many interests, minors, and actively involved in assorted organizations. My new professional home is a close community of students, educators, administrators, alumni, and industry partners. During my interview, a reference to the “green stuff” that comes out of a silo brought me back to the days when I would help my family make hay to feed our horses.  Of course, at the time, I was most worried about the hay making scratches on my arms, more than I was of making the hay.  I grew up in a small community, where attending my 4 H meetings was a big deal.  Memorizing the parts of the horse, the flank, cannon, heart girth, to getting ready to show my horse, Cherokee, are all fond memories.  Though, it has been more years that I would like to admit since I have been on a horse, this culture has laid a firm base in which I have explored the world.  My hobbies involve music, language, and water activities.  I have met many of you from campus visits and Link UP and there is no doubt in my mind that you, also, are springing from your base to explore the opportunities before you.

Serving as your liaison is one of the most important responsibilities I have.  Our partnership begins now, as I am here to help you connect to key people, services and resources to help you successfully complete your degree and experience at Penn State.

I look forward to getting to know each of you.  I wish you success in the final weeks of the semester, and would like to remind you of a couple of items:

·  The College Scholarship Application’s Deadline is April 30th, how can you qualify, if you don’t apply?

·  Fill out the SRTEs for each of your classes, by April 26th, so we may continue to improve the way education is delivered to you.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
