UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The public is invited to attend “Water, Water, Everywhere!” — an event taking place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Pasto Agricultural Museum. Registration is free.
The day will be dedicated to education about assessing and managing stormwater and drinking water and will feature two sessions.
“Green Your Blues — Stormwater Workshop for Homeowners” will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Attendees will learn how to assess stormwater on their property and how to develop and implement a stormwater management plan. Registration is limited to 20 participants.
“Safe Drinking Water Clinic” will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The clinic will cover how to test and protect private drinking water supplies such as wells and springs, including how to know when water treatment might be required. Experts also will discuss well and spring system inspection and maintenance.
Free well water screenings also will be offered to the first 40 registrants. Participants who bring a home water sample can have it analyzed for bacteria, pH, total dissolved solids and nitrate nitrogen. Test results are not considered official but instead are intended to help participants decide whether they should consider additional testing by a state-accredited laboratory.
At a minimum, Penn State Extension recommends testing water every 12 to 14 months for bacteria and every three years for pH and total dissolved solids.
The Pasto Agricultural Museum is located on the Ag Progress Days grounds at Penn State’s Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center at Rock Springs, 9 miles southwest of State College on state Route 45.
