Posted: August 3, 2018

So much is happening at the Pasto Agricultural Museum this APD. Stop in and see what's new, meet up with old friends and alumni, and take home a little bit of history! August 14-15-16, open late on Wednesday til 8 p.m.

The Pasto Agricultural Museum will hold its annual Silent Auction fundraiser on Tuesday and Wednesday of APD. Our donors and bidders support the programs and new exhibits with their generous donations. Bid early, bid often, and take home a little history!

A new permanent exhibit, "Wood Iron and Steel – Tools and Tool Making for Agriculture," will be unveiled for the show. This exhibit examines the materials and methods used to make many of the tools and technology featured throughout the museum."It is the woodworker and his lathe, the blacksmith and his forge, and the iron master and his furnace, that made possible the advancements in technology we have on display," said Curator Rita Graef. "The exhibit allows visitors to explore material science, simple machines and mechanical advantage, and inventions as applied to agricultural science."

"Blacksmiths Working" demonstration will be stationed just west of the Pasto location at the top of Main Street. The skill and craft of historically accurate blacksmiths (representing the late 1700s through the mid-1800s) will be depicted by Mike Reinard and Frank Gillespie. Times of the demonstration will change each day of the show, so visitors should check the daily activities board at the demonstration for details.

Author book signings on Wednesday at 12:30 will feature two new books by Penn State authors. From 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday meet Dr. Sally McMurry, Pennsylvania Farming and History in Landscapes, and Sarah Chamberlain, Field Guide to Grasses of the Mid-Atlantic. And "Make Your Mark" with artist materials and mark-making tools. Also visit: Penn State University Press, Friends from the Centre Furnace Mansion, and Friends from Greenwood Furnace Historic Site and State Park.
