UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Postdoc Society has announced Molly Hanlon as the recipient of the 2019 Outstanding Postdoc Award, and Klaus Keller as the recipient of the 2019 Outstanding Postdoc Mentor Award.
A postdoc in the Department of Plant Science, Hanlon was nominated by Jonathan Lynch, Kathleen Brown, Erin Connolly and Teh-hui Kao. In the words of her nominators: “Molly is a truly exceptional young scientist, conducting novel research with vigor and creativity, managing a highly complex and multidisciplinary research project, and mentoring young scientists, all while maintaining very active outreach.”
Keller, professor of geosciences and director of Penn State's Center for Climate Risk Management, was nominated by a current postdoc in his lab, Mahkameh Zarekarizi. Keller’s dedication to helping his postdoctoral mentees through professional development and teaching opportunities, maintaining consistent and open communication, providing constructive feedback, and providing opportunities to attend scientific meetings led to his selection as the recipient of the 2019 Outstanding Postdoc Mentor.
Hanlon and Keller will be presented with plaques acknowledging this honor at the 12th annual Postdoc Research Exhibition on Sept. 18.
The awards ceremony at the exhibition will take place at 12:30 p.m. in the HUB-Robeson Center. Postdocs, research associates, faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend.
