UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Registration is open for the second Northeast Cover Crop Council Conference, which will be hosted by Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences, Nov. 15-16.

Featuring 40 breakout and poster presentations on the latest cover crop research and applications in the Northeast, the conference will be held at the Ramada Inn in State College on Nov. 15, followed by a field day highlighting Penn State cover crops research on Nov. 16.

Keynote speakers will be Ontario, Canada, grain farmer Blake Vince, who will discuss improving soil with roots rather than iron, and University of Maryland soils professor Ray Weil, who will talk about taking cover crops to the next level to maximize multiple benefits.

The conference also will provide networking opportunities during the poster session, "World Café" discussions, a social hour and the field day, which will take place at Penn State's Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center at Rock Springs.

The conference is organized by the Northeast Cover Crops Council, which consists of farmers and representatives from nonprofit groups, agribusiness, government agencies such as USDA, and universities. The mission of the council is to support the successful implementation of cover crops to maximize their economic, environmental and social benefits.

For more information or to register, visit the council's website or contact Victoria Ackroyd by email at Victoria.Ackroyd@ars.usda.gov. Early-bird registration ends Oct. 15.
