Steinberg named senior director of development in College of Ag Sciences

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Following a comprehensive national search, Lauren Steinberg has been named senior director of development in the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences.

Formerly the director of major gifts for the college, Steinberg brings more than 17 years of fundraising experience to her new position. She has been a member of the College of Agricultural Sciences' development team since 2008. From 2004 to 2008, she served as assistant director in Penn State's Office of Annual Giving.

As director of major gifts, Steinberg played a key role in securing the college's recent record-setting commitments. She supervised the college's major gift officers, helped develop the college's campaign plan and strategy, and served on the Development Technology/Infrastructure Task Force, one of six University-wide committees organized to plan for Penn State’s $1.6 billion fundraising campaign: "A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence."

In her new role as senior director of development, Steinberg will manage the college's development team and ultimately will be responsible for successfully meeting the college fundraising goals in the remaining four years of "A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence."

Originally from the Philadelphia area, Steinberg holds both bachelor's and master's degrees from Penn State. Her commitment to philanthropy and community service stems back to her undergraduate days when she was a member of Gamma Sigma Sigma, a national service sorority. She continues to make community service a personal priority through organizations such as the Centre County RSVP Pen Pal program.

"I believe in the mission and the work of the College of Agricultural Sciences," said Steinberg. "Ag is pervasive and important to every facet of society. I am very excited to take on a leadership role and work with the dean, the college development team and our outstanding volunteers as we inspire philanthropic gifts from alumni and other friends of the college."

"It's been a pleasure working with Lauren over the last several years," noted Diane Blanton and Dan Eichenlaub, co-chairs of the College of Agricultural Sciences Volunteer Development Council. "Knowing her commitment to excellence and her leadership capabilities, we are certain that the college's development office is in a fine position for continued success."

Rick Roush, dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences, pointed out that Steinberg is widely recognized as a leader, top metrics performer and mentor, not only in the college but also within the University's Division of Development and Alumni Relations.

"Her experience with the college and its benefactors, coupled with her record as a successful fundraiser, makes her, without a doubt, the best person for this position," he said. "I look forward to working with her to share the story of the College of Agricultural Sciences."
