Penn State Extension to host farm safety week webinar

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Extension Farm Safety Team will host a farm safety webinar during the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety’s 2018 National Farm Safety and Health Week.

Set for noon on Sept. 17, the webinar will feature Michael Pate, Nationwide Insurance Associate Professor of Agricultural Safety and Health in Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences, as he addresses ways to promote agricultural safety and health issues in your community.

Topics to be covered during the 30-minute webinar include the need for farm safety, lighting and marking of equipment, respirator selection for agricultural producers, youth health and safety resources, grain bin safety, and safe tractor operation.

National Farm Safety and Health Week, with this year’s theme of “Cultivating the Seeds of Safety,” runs Sept. 16-22. Daily focused topics for the week will include rural roadway safety, health/suicide/opioids, child/youth health and safety, confined spaces in agriculture, and tractor safety.

The National Education Center for Agricultural Safety, which is funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, will host its own webinars throughout the week under these subjects.
