UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Are you struggling financially with your sheep or goat production? Would you like to learn more about managing finances to increase profitability? If so, plan to attend a sheep and goat financial management workshop hosted by Penn State Extension.
The event, slated for Friday, June 1, will be offered at the extension office in Westmoreland County, 214 Donohoe Road, Greensburg. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.; the workshop concludes at 3 p.m.
The workshop will cover analyzing farm resources, developing cash flow statements, how to prepare materials to apply for a loan, and developing budgets. Workshop participants will complete hands-on activities to practice budgeting skills and show how management practices and production affect profitability.
"The workshop is a great way for producers to learn skills that are necessary to manage a profitable sheep or goat enterprise," said Melanie Barkley, livestock extension educator based in Bedford County. She and Cheryl Fairbairn, Penn State Extension livestock educator based in Chester County, will present topics at the workshop.
There is no cost to attend, but registration is required by May 25. Register at the website or by calling 877-345-0691. Registration includes lunch and educational materials.
Penn State Extension, the state Department of Agriculture, Fayette County Community Action Agency, and Republic Food Enterprise Center are sponsoring the workshop.
