Extension Director's Awards announced

Several individuals and teams recently received 2009 Penn State Cooperative Extension Director's Awards.

The Spirit Awards recognize individuals or groups who show an outstanding commitment to Cooperative Extension and their community through their dedication, enthusiasm and quality performance. Recipients were Delbert G. Voight, Lebanon County (Outstanding County Educator); Laurie Weinreb-Welch, Clinton County (Outstanding Entrepreneur); Walter Whitmer, Ag Economics and Rural Sociology (Outstanding Extension Associate); the Marcellus Shale Educational Webinar Team of Mark Douglass, Jefferson County, Joann Kowalski, Susquehanna County, John Turack, Westmoreland County and Charles Abdalla, Ag Economics and Rural Sociology (Outstanding Technology); Linda Siegel, Lebanon County (Outstanding Volunteer); and the Emlenton Echoes 4-H Club, under the leadership of Gretchen Gross Kralj (Outstanding 4-H Club).

The Team Awards recognize administrative or program teams that work together in an exemplary fashion to address a special initiative or goal. Recipients were the Urban Forestry Program (Bill Elmendorf, School of Forest Resources, Vinnie Cotrone, Northeast Region, Mark Remcheck, West Region, Julianne Schieffer, Southwest Region, Scott Sjolander, West Region, and Ellen Roane, Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry); and the Educational Technology team (Sherry Crum, Ron Matason, Peg Shuffstall, and Jackie Weikert, all in Information Technologies).

The Leadership Award honors an extension professional who has a strong history of outstanding leadership and contributions to Penn State Cooperative Extension and who has demonstrated the highest overall standards of performance. The recipient of this award was Thomas B. Murphy, Lycoming County.
