The award recognizes a person who in the course of his or her daily work keeps people first by demonstrating a sensitivity to co-workers and who supports the mission of the Division of Development and Alumni Relations, which employs nearly 300 people university-wide.

Leonard was cited for "her upbeat attitude and genuine excitement for the work being done, her loyalty and her integrity."

In nominating her for the award, her colleagues also credited her with proving "not only that there is no 'I' in team, but that there is no 'I' in Development.

"Working together to finalize a gift makes the entire college succeed, and she is the first one to offer her assistance," the nomination continued. "Her level of organization ensures that even when our gift officers are traveling, she is in the office maintaining the flow of proposals, guidelines, solicitations and gifts. She is an advocate for our office, often downplaying her own accomplishments to make others shine. Her reputation is also known in other offices as she is often asked, and is always willing to, mentor other staff members.

Anyone who has been to her office knows that she is passionate about Penn State. She demonstrates that pride by her integrity, commitment, enthusiasm and genuine love for the important work we are doing for Penn State."
