Flag Action at the Berkey Creamery

flag instructions from Palchak

A phone message and yellow Post-It note on my computer notified me early this morning that there was some action at the Berkey Creamery -- a flag signifying the University of Nebraska was joining the other Big Ten member flags hanging from the ceiling.  Creamery manager Tom Palchak explains to the Office of Physical Plant crew which direction the Stars and Stripes should be hung.

It's no small task to hang these flags.  To make room for the Nebraska, hidden from view by the U.S. Flag, the crew had to maneuver the lift around from flag to flag, a slow process that works only because of low customer traffic right before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Martin Bucknavage, Senior Extension Associate in Food Science, made sure I knew about the flag hanging and was responsible for the early morning notifications.

Future Big Ten member Nebraska now appears with the other 11 member flags. If you've never looked towards the ceiling before check out the flags next time you visit the Berkey Creamery.

And if you don't like lines, now is the time to get your ice cream.
