Then and Now

Milk delivery

In 1865, the first state college creamery was established behind the "college barns." The facility, located behind what is now Old Main, also housed a blacksmith shop and hayloft. In 1889, the first stand-alone creamery building opened and offered dairy courses, including a prototype of the now-famous ice cream short course. Throughout its storied existence, the Creamery has expanded significantly, relocated more than once (most recently to the new Berkey Creamery in 2006) and continually adjusted to accommodate customers’ changing needs. Pictured here are the Creamery milk delivery vehicles, considered cutting-edge and modern at the time. Today, you can even order online to have Creamery products delivered to your door!
