Ag IT Retirement Party!

As previously announced (see article here … https://agsci.psu.edu/it/news/2019/windows-7-operating-system-set-to-retire ), Microsoft is ending support for Windows 7 at the end of 2019. Penn State has a goal of removing Windows 7 from our environment before Microsoft stops updating it and it becomes more and more vulnerable to malicious compromise. We, in the College of Ag Sciences, have made great strides - and we appreciate your cooperation. In January we had about 1,300 computers running Windows 7, in June we were down to close to 450….and now, in September, we are under 40 … that we know of!

When Microsoft XP reached its end-of-support date, any device using XP was blocked from network access at Penn State. Although there has been no formal announcement of this action for Windows 7, it appears likely that a block will be instituted at the end of 2019. If you are using a Windows 7 computer that you are planning to continue to use after December 31, please contact your IT Consultant as soon as possible to schedule the upgrade.
