Adobe Licensed Products Available

Posted: January 30, 2014

Adobe and Penn State have signed a software licensing agreement that makes many popular software products available to you. Acrobat Professional, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and many others are available, and delivered electronically.

After a period of complex negotiations Penn State has entered into a licensing agreement with Adobe to make valuable software widely available to the Penn State community.

Please remember as you read through this document that none of the Adobe software products are free. Though there is no cost to you as the end user, the College will have to maintain documents and reimburse the University for each Installation of these products. Because there are actual dollar costs, it is essential that you have a Penn State business need for the software and not simple curiosity.

There are two products families available to you under the licensing agreement; Adobe Acrobat Professional XI, and Adobe Creative Cloud components. Acrobat Pro is a pdf converter – files that you create in other applications can be converted to pdf documents for use across operating systems and software versions. Creative Cloud is a suite of six primary applications, and a host of accessory software.

Adobe Acrobat Pro is a popular piece of software, but many of us do not need it.  With Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010 anyone can create .pdf files using Microsoft Office – in Word, Publisher, PowerPoint and Excel. Additionally, Acrobat XI (the free version) is able, in most cases, to save data entered into pdf forms. With these advances in Microsoft Office and Acrobat Reader, the need for Acrobat XI Pro is very limited.

Creative Cloud includes Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, After Effects, Adobe Premier Pro, and Adobe Muse.  Also included are Adobe Audition, Bridge, Encore, Fireworks, Flash Builder Premium, Flash Professional, InCopy, Lightroom, Media Encoder, Prelude, and SpeedGrade.

Adobe Acrobat Pro XI is available for Windows XP and higher, Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 or 10.8. Most Creative Cloud requires Windows 7 or Macintosh OS X v. 10.8, 10.8 or 10.9.

Because of the necessity to accurately track installations of this software we are only able to install it on University owned computers that have IBM Endpoint manager (formerly Tivoli Endpoint manager or TEM) installed. This is the service that will be used to install the software for you, and will be used to count installations for payment.

To request Adobe software under this license, please use the web form located at: or send an e-mail to Please include the software products from the list above that you want to have installed, and the name of your computer.
