Filter HTML in Word

To reduce the size of Web pages and e-mail messages in HTML format, you can save them in filtered HTML so that the tags used by Microsoft Office programs are removed.

This feature is only recommended for experienced Web authors, who are concerned with the tags that appear in their HTML files.

  1. Open the Word document you want to use as a web page.
  2. Make sure that all the work is saved.
  3. Office 2007 - From the Office button choose Save As and then select Other Formats . Office 2003 - From the File menu choose Save As .
  4. In the Save as type box, from the drop-down list choose Web Page, Filtered .
  5. Name the file appropriately. Verify the name of the file. It should have a .htm or .html at the end of the file name.
  6. Click Save . Click Yes at warning.
  7. Your new .htm file should be open.
