These instructions will assist you in changing the password for your PSU account while working remotely.

  1. Stay logged in to your computer AND make sure you are connected to a PSU VPN, such as Cisco AnyConnect or GlobalProtect.
  2. Close ALL Microsoft applications
  3. Close any open web browsers to sign out of authenticated webpages
  4. Open a new web browser and go to https://accounts.psu.edu
  5. Log in using your current Penn State user ID and password
  6. In the center column under Security, click Security Settings
  7. Click Change Password
  8. Follow the instructions to set a new password
    • Your new password should be significantly different from the previous one
    • Your new password should not contain information that could be used to identify you
  9. Click Continue
  10. Click Done
  11. Verify, without a doubt, that you are still connected to the Penn State VPN
    • If not, reconnect to the VPN using your new password
    • It may take up to 15 minutes for your new password to work to reconnect
  12. Lock your computer (CTL-ALT-DEL on Windows; CTRL+CMD+Q on MAC; CTRL+ALT+L on Linux) and then wait about 10 seconds
  13. Unlock the machine with your new password

Your new password may now be used to access all Penn State services.

Notes:
  • If you use Box Sync\Box Drive and\or OneDrive, you will need to re-authenticate those two services. Both should prompt you.
  • If you use your smartphone or tablet on campus, you will be prompted for your new password if you try to connect to PSU wifi.
  • If you use the built-in mail client on your smartphone, you will also need to update that password.
  • If you are using a personal computer and mapping drives to PSU servers, those mapped connections will not work until the new password is entered.
