Course Content

How do you begin your journey to make meaningful change in the world and in your community? Travel the world in your first or second year to learn how people are making more equitable communities happen. In this intentionally interdisciplinary team-taught course, diverse students from across the university will travel to Ghana to explore technology, health, and food security innovations and the people who develop them. This interdisciplinary course brings together the domains of social and natural sciences.

The class will meet once a week during the semester for approximately an hour each week during the spring 2024 semester and then travel abroad during spring break (approximately March 2-10).

Travel Itinerary

  • Tour of Accra
  • Visit to Center for Regenerative Agriculture and Resilient Systems
  • Visit to a maternity home
  • Hearing from Ghanian experts about water purification and maternal health
  • Field based activity

Approximate Expenses

Estimated Cost:

  • Tuition: 3 credits. *Note that any credits over 19 are now billed individually per credit.
  • Program Fee $3500 - $4000 which includes
    • Transportation
    • Lodging
    • Most meals
  • In addition, students will need approximately $200 in spending money.
