Evolutionary Ecology in The Galapagos Islands
- ENT 497: 2 credit Spring 2027 Course at University Park beginning after Spring Break
- ENT 499: 0.25 credits for Maymester travel, approximately 2 weeks
About the Course
This course explores how evolutionary processes shape ecological interactions from population genetics, behavioral ecology, life-history theory, species interactions, and community dynamics.
Itinerary Highlights
The Galápagos Islands are the ultimate global destination for studying evolutionary ecology. Their seclusion and diversity of microclimates create a perfect living-laboratory. Itinerary highlights include:
- Visits to the Charles Darwin Research Station
- A lava tunnel
- Observe wild tortoises
- Hikes through coastal ecosystems and the second largest caldera (volcanic depression) in the world and more!

- Open to graduate students and upper-level undergraduate students

Although all possible accommodations will be made, participants will need to be physically able to hike, able to experience long periods outside in various types of weather, and be willing to be flexible about their schedule and daily expectations.
