Ag Career Day

Posted: October 19, 2011

Clad in freshly pressed business attire, I arrived at the Bryce Jordan Center this morning for the Annual College of Ag Sciences career fair, Ag Career Day.

What an opportunity this is for students in the college! Over 50 companies specific to College of Ag Sciences majors had representatives at the event to discuss future employment or internships.

As a junior, I am interested in securing an internship for this coming summer, so Ag Career Day was my first stop. Not only was I able to talk to two companies about their specific programs in which I have interest, but I was able to as the most basic questions about the job search to industry professionals, such as “When should I begin applying? Where do I start?” I was able to gain so much insight into the job market and application process.

The next step: I plan to attend a graduate school workshop offered by Career Services on campus next week to learn about graduate school possibilities in my field of study. As well, I will also visit Career Services to have my resume edited by a professional and conduct a mock interview for further practice.

The process of moving on after college could prove to be as challenging as the initial process of selecting a college. With so many options after obtaining my degree, from grad school to employment right out of school, planning the next step in my life is stressful, but mostly it’s exciting!  I am thankful that I have so many resources provided to me as a Penn State student, such as career fairs, to help me to be the best job applicant I can be!
