Mendel's Way is a 20,000 square foot modern plant growth facility made up of eight total greenhouse bays.

Sam Gruneberg is the Greenhouse and Farm Manager for Mendel's Way. Sam's background includes a Bachelors in Agricultural Science from Penn State University, with a minor in Agronomy. He got his start in greenhouse operations working for several years at the Main campus greenhouse facility.
With a strong passion for plants, and animals, Sam brings this enthusiasm every day to the farm. If you find yourself with questions about the facility, research plants, or other matters, reach out to him.

Field Space at Mendel's

The farm space on the property is made up of about 10 acres of relatively flat usable ground. The soil composition across much of the property is a limestone silt-loam soil. The 10 acres of ground is broken up into almost a dozen smaller field plots. These plots range in size from larger ½ acre plots to, small ¼ acre and smaller sized blocks.
There is field irrigation setup across the property as well. With the ability to draw water from the main well or the retention pond if necessary. About 80% of the property borders are fenced off with an 8ft tall deer fence.
You will also notice on the grounds three exterior hoop/framed structures.
- 20 x 72 freestanding hoop house with GH treated water
- 15 x 72 cold frame with GH treated water
- 24 x 36 high tunnel for dry, seasonal use
