These are manager-led processes. Managers should reach out to their assigned HR consultant before submitting these requests in Workday.

Job Reclassification

Job Reclassification is for a staff position that has experienced a significant, measurable change and whose job duties no longer align with the assigned job profile. This is not a process for rewarding employee performance, changing levels, appealing profile assignment or grade, addressing retention, or acknowledging length of service.

Please reach out to your assigned HR Consultant for more information on the college's process.

For a general overview of the process, please refer to the Job Reclassification job aid.

Career Progression

Career Progression is defined as an increase in level within the same job string. Job strings are listed for each job profile in the Penn State Job Catalog.

Managers are responsible for making career progression recommendations to unit leadership and human resources; documentation is required to substantiate recommendations and demonstrate that an employee meets the eligibility criteria and demonstrates the readiness to move to the next job string.

Please reach out to your assigned HR Consultant for more information on the college's process.

For general information, please refer to Penn State Human Resources' Career Progression webpage.
