Student team wins Ag Springboard Competition

A team of five students from the College of Engineering and the College of Agricultural Sciences won the 2011 Ag Business Springboard Competition. The winning team was chosen on Nov. 14 out of five finalist groups and was awarded the $5,000 grand prize. Members of Team Baobab PSU include team leader Matt Zellers, a senior in mechanical engineering; Leigh Lesnick, a senior in mechanical engineering; Alyssa Joslin, a junior in industrial engineering; Imran Hussain, a junior in immunology and infectious diseases; and Tyler Yost, a junior in environmental resource management.

Soil judging team wins group segment at regionals; going to nationals

Two teams from the college recently took first and fourth places in group judging at the regional soil judging competition at the University of Rhode Island, qualifying to compete in the national event hosted by West Virginia University in March.
ERM Student Models Pesticides with EPA

After completing several short work experiences with various Pennsylvania state agencies, Cody Cogan was ready for something different when he interned with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency this summer. He found the switch from the hands-on, field-based work he had been doing -- which he thoroughly enjoyed -- to an office setting in Washington, D.C., where he developed computer models to determine the effects of pesticides on aquatic ecosystems, challenging but rewarding. "It was great to know that what I did every day actually made a difference that I could see," he said.
ERM Students Compete in Bass Fishing Tournament

A team of two Penn State ERM students recently placed in the top half of competitors at the first Northern Region qualifying event for the FLW College Bass Fishing Tournament. Finishing 15th out of 40 teams, the result was actually a bit of a disappointment for team members Grae Buck and Jessica Moldofsky. They were hoping to win the tournament after landing first place at last year's Lake Erie Regional, resulting in the $10,000 prize being awarded to Penn State's Bass Fishing Club.
