Nutrient Pollution Solutions

Nutrient pollution is a leading cause of water quality problems across the United States and in other regions of the world. It is described b the US-EPA as " of America's most widespread, costly and challenging environmental problems."

The problem is a wicked one, involving multiple pollutants from multiple sources interacting in complex ways over space and time along multiple pathways, with uncertainty present at each stage of the process—from pollutant generation to the final ecological and economic impacts.  The Nutrient Pollution Solutions initiative is an ENRI-led multidisciplinary, multi-institution, multi-national shared discovery initiative to advance science and policy for effectively and efficiently managing nutrients and their environmental impacts.
