Lyndsay serves as the Master Gardener Coordinator and Extension Educator in Beaver County. In this position, she works in collaboration with local program volunteers to recruit and train new volunteers, host programs and workshops, facilitate outreach efforts, and boost the program's public visibility.
Prior to working for Penn State Extension, Lyndsay lived in Wichita, Kansas and worked for K-State Extension in Sedgwick County, building the region’s first beginning farmer training program. Under funding from a USDA’s Specialty Crop Block Grant, she helped to start Growing Growers ICT, educating beginning and existing fruit and vegetable growers about core horticulture and business concepts.
While working with young and beginning farmers in Wichita, Lyndsay served on the steering committee to develop a Food System Master Plan for the city and county, honing her interest and skills in local food policy efforts. She was also an active Master Gardener, chairing the school gardens committee and participating in many community outreach events.
Lyndsay holds two degrees, a BS in Biology and a BA in Sustainability Studies, Agricultural Concentration from Messiah University. Her passion for gardening, especially vegetables, was planted while growing up in Akron, OH, cultivated by her grandfather in Butler County, PA, and blossomed in college while working on the campus farm and in the Office of Sustainability. Her passion bore first fruit after college while she was a Pittsburgh Fellow working in Aliquippa, PA, serving the community at the Spring Street Garden.
