Instructions for adding to or editing link objects and files in Plone.

Adding a Link Object to a Folder

When you add a stand alone link to a folder, it is called a "link object" which is different from adding a link within the body text of a page.

When you are within a folder, go to the left toolbar and click on the "Add new" tab and select "link".

Add:

  • Title (short and descriptive)
  • Summary (1 sentence description)
  • URL (make sure the "external" tab is selected. Add the complete URL (with http:// or https://) to the text box provided
  • Select a Lead Image (if possible)

Add a File (PDF, Excel spreadsheet or Word document) to a Folder

When you are within a folder, go to the left toolbar and click on the "Add new" tab and select "file"

Add:

  • Title (short and descriptive)
  • Summary (1 sentence description)
  • Select the file (to upload) by clicking the BROWSE button
  • Select a lead image

Replace an Existing Link or File

Log into Plone and navigate to the folder where your item (file or link) is housed. Select your item and then click on "Edit" in the left tool bar. The following screen will open ...

Replace a link

  • Make sure that under the section name URL that the External tab is selected
  • Paste the new URL in the text box
  • SAVE

Replace a File

  • Scroll down the page to the section called "File"
  • Click the radio button that says "Replace with new file"
  • Click on the Browse button
  • Navigate to the new file on your computer, select the file and click the "OPEN" button at the bottom of the window
  • SAVE
