Tackle Hunger Food Drive

Sponsored by the Ag Alumni Society, the first-ever Tackle Hunger Food Drive was held on November 12 at the Ag Live tailgate. Thanks to the generous support of dozens of alumni and friends, almost 500 items were donated to the State College Area Food Bank.
Eleven New Members Inducted into the Armsby Honor Society

With the induction of eleven alums, membership in the Armsby Honor Society surpasses 200. The Society was created to honor our alumni and friends who have demonstrated a commitment to the College of Agricultural Sciences and to foster their continued involvement in the college and the Alumni Society.

Ag Live Surpasses Fundraising Goal

Held on November 12, the Ag Live alumni tailgate raised more than $25,000 exceeding the fundraising goal by more than $5,000. Proceeds directly benefit the College of Agricultural Sciences Alumni Society's student scholarships, internship awards, and other student and alumni programs.
Alumni Honored with Outstanding Alumni Award

Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences has honored seven of its graduates with 2011 Outstanding Alumni Awards. The awards recognize alumni for their achievements and provide opportunities for recipients to interact with the college's faculty, students and other alumni.
Alumni Society Recognizes Students

Almost 600 donors and scholarship recipients attended the annual Scholarship & Awards Banquet held on October 6, 2011. The College awarded over 1.7 million to 678 students. The Ag Alumni Society awarded over $19,000 to deserving students through the internship award and society scholarship.

98th Annual Penn State Horticulture Show

The 98th annual Horticulture Show will take place this weekend, October 15 & 16, from 9:00am-6:00pm at the Snider Agriculture Arena. Students in the Horticulture Club will transform the livestock show arena into a beautiful landscape, themed "Relaxation and Meditation in the Landscape."

Ag Alumni Society intern, Orry Pratt a senior in Animal Sciences recently spoke out in the Daily Collegian as an advocate for agriculture. Orry wrote a letter to the Collegian responding to an opinion letter from a fellow University student that he titled "Distinguishing fact vs. myth."

Located in the lobby of the Food Science Building, this is the most complete set of Penn State Creamery milk bottles. The collection dates back to 1904 and was donated by Darwin Braund '56 Dairy Science.

Leslie N. Firth Named 2010 Outstanding Alumni Council Member

Leslie N. Firth, former senior extension agent and director of cooperative extension in Mercer County, is the recipient of the 2010 Penn State Alumni Association Outstanding Alumni Council Member Award. Firth received a bachelor's degree in animal husbandry in 1958, a bachelor's and a master's degree in agricultural economics, all from Penn State.

City Lights "The Naked Truth: Why Humans Have No Fur"

Spring Mentoring Program Another Success

On January 24, we hosted our second mentoring workshop of the year. The event welcomed 10 alumni and 25 students. This event focused more on grad school interviews as opposed to resume reviews and cover letter conversations. The students came from a variety of majors, with the most coming from Animal Sciences. Thank you to all who made the event a success! The next workshop will be held on Monday, September 26, 2011 from 12:00-5:00 p.m. in 118 ASI.
