The Beginning of December is a Busy Time for Those Seeking Education.

Four major educational events are happening in the beginning of December: PA-WAgN's Symposium on Dec 8th, PA Farmers' Union Meeting on Dec. 6th, Growing PA's Organic Farms Conference on Dec. 9th & 10th and PSU Extension's Two-Day Organic Vegetable Intensive on Dec. 11th & 12th.

If you are a member of The Pennsylvania Farmers Union or would like to join, then you will want to attend their annual conference on December 6th in Harrisburg. Terra Brownback of Spiral Path Farm will be telling the The Spiral Path Story. Senator Mike Folmer will speaking to the "Focus on market Opportunity: Progress with Industrial Hemp." Breakout Sessions include 2015 Policy Priorities; Organic Checkoff Panel; and Your Farm’s Viability in a Changing Food System. PA-WAgN's annual symposium "Women Farmers: Heroes in Our Communities" takes place at The Penn Stater Conference Center on December 8th. The Keynote Address will be given by Christine Anderson, producer of the film, Terra Firma. Breakout topics include: Agroforestry; Poultry Production;Pastured Hogs; Running a Winter Vegetable CSA; Time Management Tips for Farmers;No-Till, No-Herbicide Planting of Spring Vegetables Using Forage Radish Cover Crop; Resources for New & Beginning Farmers and many more. Growing Pennsylvania's Organic Farms is the 1st annual educational farm conference focused on advanced organic production practices. The conference is being coordinated through the PA Dept. of Agriculture with support from personnel from Rodale Institute, PA Certified Organic (PCO), Organic Valley Dairy, USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), USDA Certified organic farmers and PA Farm Link. Finally, Penn State Extension is offering it's fifth annual two-day Organic Vegetable Intensive in Easton, PA on December 11th and 12th. This intensive is geared toward more experienced organic vegetable growers. More information can be found by clicking here.
