Seeking students to work as full-time, paid assistants on a research project beginning May 7 and ending approximately August 10.
Interns will receive training and then work as a team to locate and remeasure permanent research plots on the Rothrock, Tuscarora, Bald Eagle, Moshannon, Sproul, Elk, and Tiadaghton State Forests.
The research involves a study of changes in the composition and structure of developing forest stands. It has been underway for over 20 years, and a great many of our former interns have gone on to successful careers in federal or state employment and/or advanced degrees and careers in research and teaching.
Daily travel to and from the University Park campus will be provided, as well as lodging and meals for the occasional overnight trip. The work week is four 10-hour days with Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off.
Skills in tree identification, mensuration, and using a GPS device are useful, but most of all we are looking for students who are conscientious, detail-oriented, hardworking, and capable of working in a team.
