JOB TITLE: Operations Management Intern
REPORTS TO: Director of Logistics
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Operations Management Intern may be assigned to any departments of John Vena, Inc. involved in product handling, preparation or transportation as part of their assignment. This may include Operations, Product Handling, Production and certain aspects of Customer Service to understand the operations of John Vena, Inc. and will develop an understanding of the knowledge and skills required by the Operations Team. Interns will be placed based on Company needs and depending upon the trainee's skill set and experience.

John Vena, Inc. works around the clock and there may be opportunities to work non-traditional hours. The timeframe for this position will be from May through August, with flexible start dates. This internship is a full time, paid position. Hours will be assigned according to the work assigned and will normally occur between 6 am and 8 pm.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Spend some time in all relevant departments to learn the basics of the business. Contributes to the success of the company by making suggestions for improvement, mastering assigned processes and functions effectively across departments/teams.
  2. Learns and understands the Production functions of John Vena, Inc., including, all production activity, equipment care, product quality, inventory levels and food safety practices. This includes the entire repacking process structure.
  3. Learns and understands the Logistics functions of John Vena, Inc., including, the organization and facilitation of incoming and outbound products, product put-away/placement, sampling and display of product, inventory, clean up, receiving, shipping and delivery, order selecting and equipment care.
  4. Learns and understands the cashier functions of John Vena Inc., including, the collection and management of cash received from customers in payment of cash sales and invoices.
  5. Learns and understands the proper handling process for sales tickets and BOLs, before and after order selection and shipping.
  6. Learns and understands the basic processes and procedures associated with counting, checking and correcting inventory.
  7. Learns and understand the John Vena, Inc. occupational and food safety programs and all associated requirements and regulations.
  8. Attends and participates in meetings and programs as assigned.
  9. Performs all tasks and duties in an efficient and safe manner.
  10. Performs other related duties as assigned or as necessary. Remains flexible and adaptable in work schedules and work assignments as defined by departmental and organizational needs.
  11. Represents John Vena, Inc. in a manner that conveys professionalism, confidentiality, courtesy, fairness, personal integrity, and respect for others.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
    • High School Diploma, or equivalent, required
    • Full time College student
  • SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Willingness to explore the fresh produce industry
    • Ability to work independently and with a team
    • Strong problem solving and/or troubleshooting skills
    • Proficient in computer use (Windows, Excel, Word)
    • Strong interpersonal skills
