PennAg Internship Opportunity

PennAg will hire one intern for the summer of 2018. The PennAg summer internship experience will provide the opportunity for individual project work, assisting in agriculture outreach activities and refining your presentation skills. This is a hands on learning experience/internship. Freshman, sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply for the internship. The program is a paid, 12 week opportunity (most weeks are a 4 day work week – hours: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. – w/some exceptions). Associated travel and lodging accommodations will be covered by PennAg.
The goals of the internship program include:

  • Become familiar with PennAg, its membership and the various career opportunities in PA Agriculture
  • Expand the students’ knowledge and confidence by providing several key projects for the student to complete and then make three presentations on the work he/she accomplished
  • Through job shadowing, offer the student the opportunity to see the skill set needed to be effective in today’s work environment - including how to conduct meetings, work attire, communicating with various groups, etc.

Eligibility:
Students who are freshman, sophomores or juniors in good academic standing with various leadership and extracurricular activities on their resume.
Preference is that the intern lives near the Harrisburg, PA area –or have accommodations near Harrisburg – as we do not offer housing nor reimbursement for housing.
If you would like to be considered for this internship, submit a cover letter and a one page resume via email to Jennifer Reed-Harry at by October 30, 2017.  On campus interviews will be conducted on November 8th with selection and notification of summer intern candidate by November 15, 2017.
Specific Assignments/Tasks:

  • Map and develop a data set of locations of feed mills and grain buying stations in PA
  • Create a power point presentation on this data set to present to a group of 15 people
  • Outreach to businesses to update contact information
  • Assist with local events engaging consumers with agriculture
  • Participate in Family Farm Days Booth (aka Oregon Dairy Days in Lancaster, PA) - June 12, 13 and 14, 2018
  • Develop components of an interactive swine display
  • Design a swine producer card to be mailed for Ag Progress Days
  • Develop language for House/Senate proclamation
  • Create Facts/Posts for Social Media.
