Penn State Extension Allegheny County Summer “Sustainable Food Systems & Entrepreneurship” Internship

This paid summer internship will run from May 31 through Aug 5 (10 weeks) for 40 hours per week at $10.00 per hour.

This unique opportunity with Allegheny County will provide a student intern an opportunity to work with producers, use your interests in entrepreneurship and food systems, and be part of a product development team, while gaining skills in community engagement, network building, policy advocacy and nonprofit leadership.

Responsibilities may include:
1.    Food systems research and report writing
2.    High level administrative assistance as needed
3.    Data collection and analysis
4.    Stakeholder engagement and communications

We are seeking enthusiastic undergraduate students from Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences with interests in a project work on community and economic development, food access, public health and urban agriculture. Projects may include participating in community engagement programming, organizing extension education opportunities such as farm tours and urban homesteading skills classes, assisting with programing to support new farmers, working with diverse stakeholders on local food policy issues. This intern will be part of a team, and must function in a manner that maintains a spirit of corporation and enthusiasm with other staff, management and clients.

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. The selected intern will have the opportunity to work in multiple locations across the state throughout the summer.
