ECMSS Undergraduate Participation

Posted: January 30, 2015

We'd like to increase undergraduate involvement in this year's ECMSS (Environmental Chemistry and Microbiology Student Symposium) event. This article provides detailed information for students interested in participating.

Every year, graduate students from a number of Penn State science departments (Ecosystem Sciences and Management, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Geosciences, Meteorology, and many more) come together to host the Environmental Chemistry and Microbiology Student Symposium (ECMSS). This year’s event is scheduled for Friday, April 24 to Saturday, April 25, and it will be held at the Penn State, University Park Campus in the Forest Resources Building.

The ECMSS symposium exposes students to the cutting edge environmentally-relevant research being done at Penn State and other universities in the region, and it also provides students with an opportunity to share their own research with colleagues. This year we are hoping to attract not only graduate students, but also undergraduate students. To be a successful scientist, communication and presentation of one’s research is critical, and it’s never too early to starting working on this skill set.

There will be three exceptional Keynote Speakers at this year’s event. The ECMSS organizing committee will be announcing each speaker in the months leading up to the event. Stay tuned!

Students can choose to present their research as either an oral or poster presentation, and the abstract submission deadline is March 20. For more information, please visit our website at: http://www.essc.psu.edu/ECSS/

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thank you for your time!
