Dutch Gold Honey Research Scholarship

Applications are now being accepted for the 2014 Dutch Gold Honey Undergraduate Scholarship for research in honey bee biology and health. The deadline is April 1, 2014.

The Penn State Department of Entomology is seeking undergraduate student applicants for the Dutch Gold Honey Scholarship for honey bee research. This scholarship is awarded to undergraduates enrolled in the College of Agricultural Sciences who have completed or are registered for 300 and 400 level courses in Entomology.The successful candidate will receive a scholarship of $2,000 and the opportunity to participate in research on honey bees in the Fall 2014 semester, or longer if desired. Students are expected to commit 10 hours/week to their research project. Past recipients of this award have examined the impacts of viruses, parasites, and pesticides on honey bees at the behavioral, physiological and molecular level.

Interested students should submit their applications to Christina Grozinger (cmg25@psu.edu) by April 1, 2014.  Applicants will be notified of the decision of the selection committee by May 1, 2014.  Applications should include a two page CV (including past professional experiences), an unofficial transcript, and a one page cover letter describing the applicant’s interests in honey bee research. The cover letter should also include a short list of faculty mentors, with whom the applicant would be interested in working. It's recommended that applicants contact faculty members prior to submitting the application, but this is not required.
