Posted: August 22, 2014

Sponsorship Applications for AFA Leaders Conference are now open until September 5th. Join almost 600 ag students from across the nation in Kansas City Nov. 6-9, for networking with agricultural companies and personal and professional development. Don't wait to submit your application!

Fellow Penn State agriculture leaders,

I would like to personally invite you to apply for the 2014 AFA Leaders Conference in Kansas City, Nov. 6-9. Attending this event has been one of the most beneficial experiences of my college career so far. I’ve had the opportunity to meet other young leaders in agriculture from all over the nation and make personal connections with top companies in the industry. Here’s a breakdown of what Conference has to offer you:

    Networking

At AFA Leaders Conference, you will network with over 500 of the nation’s top agriculture students. You will also interact with over 150 recognized industry leaders. You will continue to work with many of these individuals year after year.

      The AFA Opportunity Fair

It’s like a career fair, but better. First, you visit at a specific time determined by your year in college, so the organization’s present know what you are looking for. Whether you are a freshman trying to gather as much information as possible or a junior on the hunt for a specific internship, the representatives can tailor their message to you. The opportunities aren’t just career based. You’ll also see graduate degree programs and other organizations, too.

      The AFA High

There is no way you can leave Conference without being excited about the future of agriculture. AFA helps you define your future goals, hone soft skills and better apply academic coursework to your future career.

      The Program

This Conference is designed by students for students, and the experience is phenomenal. Sessions provide valuable and engaging advice. There’s also time for fun and hanging out with other awesome students from across the nation.

The Leader in Agriculture Award Dinner

On Friday night of Conference, we get to attend the AFA Leader in Agriculture Award Dinner, where AFA recognizes two individuals for their commitment to agriculture and the development of youth. It is an honor to hear from such big names in agriculture. You’ll also be able to use this time to continue networking with industry professionals.

      Applying for a Scholarship

If any of the above reasons appeal to you, I encourage you to apply to attend Conference through the industry sponsorship application. AFA’s industry partners will cover your registration, lodging and meals during Conference. The only thing students are responsible for is travel, however, Penn State has funds set aside for this.

Applications are due on September 5 and can be found on the AFA Leaders Conference website. Contact Joy Beam with any questions at jmb6832@psu.edu.
