Posted: April 25, 2012

The Penn State Department of Entomology is seeking undergraduate student applicants for the Dutch Gold Honey Scholarship for honey bee research.

This scholarship is awarded to undergraduates enrolled in the College of Agricultural Sciences who have completed or are registered for 300 and 400 level courses in Entomology.  The successful candidate will receive a scholarship of $2000 and the opportunity to participate in research on honey bees in the Fall 2012 semester, or longer if desired.  Students are expected to commit 10 hours/week to their research project.  Past recipients of this award have examined the distribution and effects of honey bee viruses and parasites.

Interested students should submit their applications to Christina Grozinger by May 15, 2012.  Applicants will be notified of the decision of the selection committee by July 1, 2012.  Applications should include a two page CV (including past professional experiences), an unofficial transcript, and a one page cover letter describing the applicant’s interests in honey bee research.  The cover letter should also include a short list of faculty mentors who the applicant would be interested in working with.  A listing of faculty members with research related to pollinators can be found here: http://ento.psu.edu/pollinators/members
