Paper Abstract

On November 8, 2016, residents in Rhode Island voted on two statewide referendums involving place-based spending, one for a suite of environmental priorities and one for affordable housing. We conducted a detailed, statewide exit poll focused on formation of beliefs about housing market impacts of referendum spending and how beliefs affected voting decisions. Our results document the distribution of beliefs and individual and town-level determinants, and find that homeowner voting decisions are more responsive to beliefs than renters.

A light lunch will be provided.  We hope to see you all there!
