Dennis Buffington, professor of agricultural engineering, recently was awarded the title of Distinguished Professor by Moscow State Agroengineering University.

The academic council of that university conferred this title on Buffington for "great services in higher education and for a significant contribution in the development of Russian-American collaboration in academia."

Buffington, who maintains contact with his former Russian students and enjoys visiting with them and their families each time that he teaches in Moscow, has taught courses on biological systems engineering and energy systems management.

"Many of the children of these former Russian students of mine refer to me as 'Dyedooshka,'" Buffington said. "That is the Russian word for grandfather."
